A simple recipe for decarbonized energy supply

    Power-to-Gas (PtG) is the technology of converting renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, into hydrogen via electrolysis. Since hydrogen is challenging to transport and store, it is then converted into methane in our reactors, with the addition of CO2. This methane, also known as Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG), serves as a green and alternative form of natural gas.

Proven success in SNG energy solutions

MAN Energy Solutions was recently chosen to provide a methanation reactor for SNG production at a wastewater treatment plant in Pau, France. The methanation plant is integrated in a new sludge treatment unit. The new unit will have two main functions: The treatment of sludge by anaerobic digestion, which produces a mixture of bio-methane and biogenic CO2 and the power-to-gas conversion of biogenic CO2 (a co-product of the anaerobic digestion) along with renewable hydrogen into synthetic methane. The methanation plant makes it possible to increase the production capacity of the biogas plant by more than 50%. All of the bio- and synthetic methane produced will be injected into the gas network.
