History of MAN Energy Solutions Japan
Serving Japan through more than a century
The history of MAN and B&W in Japan spans more than 100 years. The first MAN license agreement was signed in 1911 and the first B&W license agreement in 1926. Since then, the common history with the Japanese has strong partnerships with a total of six licensees for two-stroke, four-stroke and turbochargers.
Japan has a very strong position in the maritime industry and is an important partner in efforts to make the shipping industry greener. In recent years, Japan has been an important partner for both dual-fuel and Tier III technology. A solid number of dual-fuel main engines shipped, as well as the first PBST SCR HP for a two-stroke marine propulsion engine, were supplied by a Japanese engine manufacturer and yard.Four-stroke sales are another important link to Japan. Over the years a list of power plant agreements has been drawn up, covering both MAN 18V 48/60B engines and a new state-of-the-art facility with MAN 12V 51/60DF engines, to lead the customer into the era of dual fuel.
