Enter a new age of efficiency
The decarbonization of the energy sector is the driving force behind the energy transition. Net zero is the goal, and renewable energy sources (RES) are an essential building block on the way there. But RES needs support to ensure security of supply – support that is also decentralised, flexible, dynamic, highly efficient, and carbon-neutral. Investments have to be future-proof to prevent stranded assets. Our answer is efficient, powerful, and green: The MAN 49/60DF engine.
With maximum power and zero compromises, the new MAN 49/60DF engine allows you to immediately reduce CO2 emissions and, with future retrofits, set course for zero emissions.High efficiency
Thanks to its advanced technologies, the MAN 49/60DF is the most efficient dual-fuel engine yet, setting a new industry benchmark of 51.9% mechanical efficiency. This is part of what makes it a green engine. Efficiency and low methane slip ensure compliance with emissions legislation, and are well prepared for the future. The high power density gives it a small footprint and can lower CAPEX, as fewer engines are needed for certain outputs.

High availability
The MAN 49/60DF provides consistent power output for every scenario, be it baseload or balancing. Baseload availability is ensured by reliable and safe operation. Less time and effort are required for maintenance because its high power density requires fewer cylinders. The standard maintenance interval is 8000 hours. Dynamic flexibility ensures availability in terms of fast response, which is especially important for balancing applications. The engine can reach 100% load in less than three minutes.
High derating limits
The MAN 49/60DF is robust and delivers full performance in extreme conditions: There is no derating up to 51°C (in gas mode) and it is insensitive to altitudes of up to 1,500 meters above sea level.

Full power, fuel flexibility and low emissions
With a power output of 1300 kW per cylinder, the MAN 49/60DF can reach a maximum of 26 MW per engine. This saves space in the powerhouse and also lowers CAPEX. In addition to emission compliance (in relation to current regulations), the MAN 49/60 DF can operate on a wide range of fuels, including e-methane, natural gas and biofuels. This is also the first MAN dual-fuel engine that can operate with up to 25% hydrogen blending in natural gas. Efficiency, low methane slip, and the ability to run on low carbon fuels make a valuable contribution to decarbonization. In the long term, this modular engine offers multiple paths for emissions compliance. Retrofitting for future fuels such as green hydrogen and ammonia retrofits is a key factor in the engine’s design.
I am really convinced that our power plant solution with the 49/60 family can perfectly meet the challenges of the energy transition. With its high performance, outstanding efficiency- and excellent flexibility, the 49/60 DF has all the features you need for a future-proof investment.
Best for baseload and balancing
The rapidly growing share of renewables in baseload power is raising the importance of power balancing to compensate for supply fluctuations. The MAN 49/60DF is comfortable in both roles, thanks to its benchmark efficiency.
Baseload
Baseload
The MAN 49/60 Family sets new benchmarks for mechanical efficiency. High power density and fuel flexibility enable low-cost, low-carbon baseload power generation. This is a particular specialty of the MAN 49/60DF. The engines react quickly to changing loads and allow continuous full, part, and low load operation. They adapt to the availability of different fuels and are not compromised by difficult environments (high altitude, heat, and humidity).

Balancing
Balancing
The MAN 49/60 Family balancing power plants are the ideal addition to fluctuating renewable energy sources: Delivering flexible, reliable power to the grid, whether or not the sun shines or the wind blows. With rapid start-up times, superior efficiency (even at partial and low loads), state-of-the-art dynamic behavior, and a stable power output independent of ambient conditions, the MAN 49/60G in particular offers a full-package solution for balancing. Naturally, all engines comply with current emissions regulations. Plus, these green engines can be converted to run on future fuels, readying your operation for the transition to net zero.
