Jugend forscht 2021 - We are in the national finals!

Three trainees from the MAN Energy Solutions Augsburg training center have qualified for the national finals of the "Jugend forscht" competition from May 26 to 30. After taking 1st place in the regional competition, the trio of researchers took the next hurdle in the state competition and won the state title.

Apprentices Samuel Nachtmann, Joshua Zilliox and Nelson Machado Teixeira are delighted with two successive victories in the MINT competition for young researchers. They first impressed the jury at regional level with their magnetic vise and thus won their ticket to the state competition, where the trio also won the state competition in the field of working environments at the end of March. Now it's off to the national finals.

The research project: No more bulky clamping

The vise jaws are usually in the way, for example when filing a chamfer. The clamping possibilities also leave much to be desired with a conventional vise. A little shifting or slipping is enough to make the work piece inaccurate. Labor and material costs increase.

"Nelson, Joshua and Samuel agreed that there must be a solution to this problem and set themselves the goal of reinventing the vise. The aim was to simplify the clamping and alignment of workpieces and precise machining. In addition to user-friendliness, they also wanted the tool to save space in the workshop. The result was a flexible vise with electromagnetic components that also impressed the judges at the national competition.

We keep our fingers crossed for the last JUFO stage! Keep it up, dear Nelson, Samuel and Joshua, and good luck at the national finals!
